Ukraine is a country in Eastern Europe. It is the second-largest European country after Russia, which it borders to the east and northeast.

Homefront timeline[]

Shortly before the eruption of the devastating Oil Wars in 2015, Ukraine and Russia signed a "mutual interest pact", keeping their oil and natural gas between the two nations, and also cutting off all such trade with the rest of Europe. American commentaries noted that this action will undoubtedly have brutal consequences for Western European countries.[1]

Trivia[]

  • As Homefront was released in 2011, the depiction of Ukraine being a "mutual" ally of Russia in the game's lore is ironically farther from reality that followed a different path: Russia and Ukraine are in a state of war since 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea and occupied parts of southeastern Ukraine. Conflict soon escalated in the early 2020s in which Russia began a military invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. In response to sanctions imposed by the European Union and the United States, Russia reduced its exportation of oil and gas, thus consequently inflating the costs of energy consumption in Western Europe and abroad.
