Homefront: The Revolution
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty of 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defence in response to an attack by any external party. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, NATO expanded east, bringing some degree of tension with the Russian Federation.
Not much is known is known about NATO's involvement with the GKR. What is known is that with the harsh effects of a rapid global economic decline that by 2022, when the United States dollar nearly collapses due to the nation's crumbling economy, NATO ceases to exist, with member countries turning to foucus on their problems at home. Many former NATO members try to maintain good relationships with each other such as the United States and Canada. The apparent dissolution of NATO can be supported by the fact when the United States is invaded by the Greater Korean Republic in 2025, no member nations came to the aid of America, possibly due to economic issues at home. However, after the Battle of San Francisco in 2027, it is stated that the European Union has called for an emergency meeting among member states regarding about providing future aid and reinforcements for the United States. This may imply that NATO will be reformed, and along with the EU, will intervene in the Korean-American War.
NATO remained neutral during the North Korean occupation of the United States. Sometime after the Philadelphia Uprising, Europe was threatened by a possible KPA invasion and NATO prepared for a first strike against the KPA in America. NATO planned on destroying the KPA's APEX satellite network, in order to disable the KPA's APEX weaponry and allowing a massive NATO force to invade America. However, NATO cannot risk using its own ICBMs from Europe to destroy the APEX network in fear of triggering a nuclear war, and instead trying to launch a missile from within KPA territory. NATO assembled a team that will infiltrate America with a nuclear warhead and taking it to a decommissioned missile silo in Beckton Lake Village from where it will be launch.
The infiltration, however, almost ended in disaster. A NATO engineer, Lisa Burnel, was the sole survivor of the infiltration team after they were discovered by the KPA. Fortunately, the Resistance were contacted by Burnel and helped her in narrowly succeeding the mission. Without the satellite network, the KPA integrated communication and all their weapon systems collapse leading to NATO successfully invade and liberate Korean-occupied America.
