Sam Burnett is a doctor living in Occupied Philadelphia in Homefront: The Revolution. As a member of the Resistance, he is more concerned for the health and safety of the people living in his city. While still loyal to America, he left the Resistance due to the casualties caused by KPA reprisals.

History[]

Although a member of the Resistance, Doctor Burnett is entirely against unnecessary violence and fearful of the Resistance's actions that would only bring KPA reprisal on Americans, including those who are unaffiliated with the Resistance. Instead, he strongly advocated for nonviolent methods to achieve American independence, or lasting peace between Americans and the KPA. He once even treated a wounded KPA soldier and kept this secret from the Resistance, knowing that they would likely execute him for being a traitor.[1]

Because of his pacifistic ideals, Burnett often clashed with his friend Jack Parrish and Dana Moore.

Homefront: The Revolution[]

Burnett was reluctant to allow Ethan Brady to join the Philly Resistance due to concerns of Brady's injuries, and suggested of giving him a new ID and letting him go. But Parrish overruled, stating that Brady's face is already identified by the KPA, and allowed Brady to join the Resistance.

After the failure of Walker's rescue and KPA retaliation that saw the near demise of the Philly Resistance thanks to Crawford's betrayal, Sam was left exhausted in treating the wounded. Sam was against Parrish and Dana's plan to capture Mayor Simpson, fearing that it will only repeat the same costly mistake from Walker's rescue.

After Mayor Simpson was murdered on live television and Parrish succeeded in convincing the city's people to rebel, Burnett's fears were proven; the KPA retaliated by deploying nerve gas on the entire city. For Sam, the sight of Dana losing control and Jack who couldn't just control nor stop Dana and then giving a speech for a violent uprising, was enough for him to see in his eyes that the Resistance was as worse as the KPA is. Sam confronts and told Parrish, Dana, and Brady about what the KPA are doing because of their actions. Deeply disgusted with the Resistance's actions that have provoked the KPA to retaliate by commiting mass murder, ashamed of ever joining the Resistance in the first place and feeling like there is no fixing what he now considers "an armed group of violent people who can't control themselves", Sam choose to abandon the Resistance and goes helping the people to evacuate the city.

Personality[]

Sam is a peaceful doctor who showed a strong disdain for any violence, even against the KPA. He does not share the Resistance's single-minded hatred for the North Koreans, and strongly believed non-violence and communication with the KPA would bring peace between the Americans and their occupiers. Due to his pacifistic beliefs Sam is considered the opposite of Dana Moore's very aggressive outlook.

Quotes[]

"I look into the future, Brady. And in that uncertain darkness I see a vast constellation of light. The good deeds, the joy and the love that will be spread by all of us as we travel our lives. Each death in this conflict extinguishes those lights. And the future darkens for all of us. I just want to run away from it all but then I hear someone calling in pain. And I just can't do it. I have to try and help."
Sam to Ethan after Ned Sharpe's death.
